Note: William and Valda rented a flat in a Polish neighborhood in Niagara Falls for their first winter together. They used a windowbox as a freezer. In 1945 they rented a house on Laughlin Drive and later bought it. The neighborhood was built as housing for Bell Air employees. Their next door neighbor was a test pilot, and once landed an experimental helicopter in the back yard. William and Valda could not have children of their own, so they adopted William Edward and Cheryl.
